Ibiza to Formentera: A Barefoot Luxury Escape | OffTheGrid Travel
Thirty minutes from Ibiza by ferry, and a world away in pace
Most people who fly into Ibiza never leave it. That is precisely why the island thirty minutes south by ferry has stayed so quiet — overlooked, sitting in the shadow of its famous neighbour, while holding some of the most carefully protected coastline in the Mediterranean.
What is barefoot luxury, and why is Formentera built for it?
Barefoot luxury is a term that has grown out of a simple frustration: that “luxury” and “relaxed” are too often treated as opposites. It describes a style of travel where the comfort is real — considered interiors, proper food, a spa worth the name — but the atmosphere stays unpolished. No dress code at dinner. No manicured grounds standing between you and the beach.
Formentera, the smallest of the Balearic Islands, fits this almost by accident. Much of its land sits under formal environmental protection, and the Ses Salines Natural Park, shared with Ibiza, spans the water between the two islands. As an ISEP Associate Member, OffTheGrid Travel builds every escape in our Restore collection around exactly this kind of pairing.
Three or four nights of energy, restaurants and easy connections from most of Europe.
Thirty minutes by ferry, and one of the Mediterranean's most protected coastlines.
A strong advocate for slow, considered travel, built into every itinerary we plan.
Close, collaborative relationships with each property, not a transactional booking.
Why pair Ibiza and Formentera in one trip?
Ibiza and Formentera are often talked about as opposites — one loud, one quiet — but the more useful way to think about them is as two halves of the same holiday. A few days in Ibiza gives you the energy. Then a short ferry crossing from Ibiza Port to La Savina takes you somewhere built for the opposite. It is a pattern we build often at OffTheGrid: stimulation first, stillness second, rather than trying to force both into the same few days in the same place.

Ibiza gives you the energy. Formentera gives you somewhere to put it down.
How OffTheGrid Travel builds this escape
For Formentera, our property of choice is Teranka, a four-star coastal hotel 150 metres from Playa Migjorn. Its 35 rooms and suites are split across three buildings — Mar, Tierra and Cielo — each with a different relationship to the landscape, and its in-house spa draws on island-sourced botanicals rather than an imported treatment menu.
We build these itineraries with the same care we bring to our South Tyrol wellness journeys. Tell us your dates and we'll shape the Ibiza-to-Formentera balance around how much energy you want on either side of the ferry.

Frequently asked questions
What is barefoot luxury?
Barefoot luxury is a style of high-end travel that prioritises natural surroundings, understated design and genuine comfort over formality or ornamentation. Expect private terraces, proper spas and considered food, without a dress code standing between you and the beach.
How do you get from Ibiza to Formentera?
By ferry. Crossings from Ibiza Port to La Savina, Formentera's only port, take around 30 minutes. Fly into Ibiza Airport, transfer to Ibiza Port, then cross by boat — there is no airport on Formentera itself.
Is Formentera quieter than Ibiza?
Considerably. Formentera has no major nightlife district and much of its land is under environmental protection, which has kept development, and crowds, to a minimum compared with Ibiza.
How do I start planning a barefoot luxury Ibiza and Formentera trip?
Tell us your dates and pace and we'll build the split between the two islands around it, from the Ibiza nights to the Formentera stillness, with Teranka as the Restore anchor.
