Traditional basket boat on the Thu Bon River near the nipa palm forest, Hoi An

The Thu Bon River, minutes from Hoi An’s Ancient Town

Namia River Retreat’s private islet is not a retreat from Hoi An so much as another way into it. Every villa rate carries a full calendar of complimentary cultural experiences — a guided bamboo bicycle trail, basket boat paddling through the nipa palm forest, daily yoga, and an evening cultural cruise that ends with a lantern lighting ritual on the water. None of it needs booking far in advance, only a call to the front desk.

What cultural experiences are included at Namia River Retreat?

Four experiences run daily, at no extra cost to in-house guests. A guided bamboo bicycle trail departs each morning, through the quaint paths of the surrounding villages. In the afternoon, guests can paddle a traditional basket boat around the islet and into the nipa palm forest that lines the Thu Bon River — the same forest the resort’s Nipa Pool Villas look out over. As evening falls, a private cultural cruise seating up to fifty people sails the river with cocktails and canapés, timed to return for the lantern lighting ritual at the Welcome Lounge, a practice rooted in Hoi An’s own history of giving thanks.

Is daily yoga included at Namia River Retreat?

Yes. Yoga runs as part of the Lumina Wellbeing calendar: a Yang Yoga Flow each morning to open the body, a Yin Stretch and Breathe session in the afternoon, and Sleep Yoga in the evening. All three are complimentary for in-house guests and run alongside Vietnamese Tai Chi and a silent mindful walk, a practice inspired by the Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. Guests can also visit the wishing tree opposite the spa as part of the resort’s daily blessing ritual.

How OffTheGrid Travel plans a Hoi An discovery trip around Namia

For our Roam-collection itineraries, Namia River Retreat gives guests a way to experience Hoi An’s Ancient Town, its lantern-lit streets and central market, without staying inside the crowds. The resort’s own shuttle boat covers the short crossing in around ten minutes, so a morning market visit and an evening on the islet sit easily in the same day. Tell us your dates and how much of Hoi An you want to explore on foot, by bicycle or by boat, and we’ll build the itinerary around it.
