Baku skyline Azerbaijan at dusk, final stop on a tailor-made Georgia and Azerbaijan itinerary

Tailor-made travel should not come with a premium attached. At OffTheGrid Travel, you pay the same rate you would pay booking direct. No mark-ups. No hidden service fees. What changes is everything around the booking: the planning, the local knowledge, and one person looking after you from first enquiry to the journey home. Below, we explain how our tailor-made service works, then walk you through a recent itinerary we built across Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Does it cost more to book with OffTheGrid Travel?

The short answer is no. The rate you see through us is the same rate the property offers when you book direct. We do not add a mark-up, and there is no planning or service fee on top. The price is the same. The difference is what comes with it.

What tailor-made means in practice

  • First-hand expertise. Every recommendation is backed by decades of lived travel across more than 77 countries. We suggest places because we know them, and you can browse many of them in our collection.
  • Added extras. Where available, our guests receive complimentary late check-outs, welcome amenities and exclusive touches they would not get booking on their own.
  • End-to-end support. You have one dedicated contact before, during and after your stay. If plans change, you message one person, not a call centre.

The process itself is simple. You tell us your dates, who is travelling and what matters to you. We come back with a short, considered set of options at different price points, each with room type, board basis, price and drive times to the places you want to see. We also advise on the logistics: where to base yourself, how transfers fit around flight times, and what is realistic in the time you have. Nothing is committed until you are ready.

Case study: the brief

Two travellers came to us with a week in early October and two countries in mind. They wanted a night in Tbilisi, proper time in the Caucasus mountains, a countryside escape in Azerbaijan that included the Candy Cane Mountains, and a final night in Baku. The priorities were scenery, space and the freedom to explore at their own pace.

The itinerary we presented

Night 1

Tbilisi. Arrive in the Georgian capital and settle in for an evening in the city before heading north into the mountains the next morning.

Nights 2 to 4

The Caucasus mountains, Georgia. Gudauri sits around 120 km north of Tbilisi, roughly two hours along the Georgian Military Highway. With three nights here, our advice was to choose one base rather than move between hotels. No packing up, no repeat check-ins, and easy day drives to the region's highlights: the Jvari Pass is around 10 minutes away, Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity Church around 45 minutes, the Truso Valley trailhead about an hour, and Ananuri Fortress sits on the road back towards Tbilisi. We presented three hand-picked mountain properties at different price points, all with breakfast included, each with drive times to every point of interest.

Travel day

Tbilisi to Baku. The onward flight to Baku left at 11:40, which meant being at the airport by around 09:40 and an early drive down from the mountains of two to three hours. We flagged this at quote stage. In our view, the full mountain stay justified the early start, but it is the kind of detail that should never be a surprise on the day.

Nights 5 and 6

The Azerbaijan countryside and the Candy Cane Mountains. The striped red and white ridges were a highlight of the brief, but there is very little accommodation in the immediate area. Rather than compromise, we built the visit into the drive. We presented two countryside options: a wellbeing resort in the forested foothills of the Shabran region, around 1.5 to 2 hours from Baku and 45 to 50 minutes from the mountains, and a mountain hotel at Shahdag in the Greater Caucasus, around three hours from Baku and 1 hour 15 minutes from the Candy Cane Mountains. Either way, the mountains become a stop on the way out of Baku or on the way back. Around Shabran, guests can expect quiet forest trails, lakes and traditional villages. Around Shahdag, it is high-altitude hiking, alpine waterfalls and the remote village of Laza.

Night 7

Baku. A final night in the capital before the flight home.

What this trip shows

The value of tailor-made travel is rarely the booking itself. It is the judgement around it. One mountain base instead of three. A flight time turned into a realistic wake-up time. A landmark with nowhere to stay turned into a stop on the road. All at the same rates our guests would have paid booking each property direct.

Frequently asked questions

Does tailor-made travel with OffTheGrid Travel cost more than booking direct?

No. You pay the same rate as booking directly with the property. We do not add mark-ups or service fees. Where available, our guests also receive extras such as late check-outs and welcome amenities.

How does the tailor-made planning process work?

You share your dates, group size and priorities. We return a short set of options at different price points, each with room type, board basis, price and travel times to nearby points of interest. We advise on routing and logistics, and once you choose, we confirm the booking and stay on hand as your single point of contact throughout.

Can OffTheGrid Travel plan a trip across more than one country?

Yes. This Georgia and Azerbaijan itinerary combined a city stay in Tbilisi, a mountain base in the Caucasus, a countryside retreat in Azerbaijan and a final night in Baku, with advice on transfers and flight timings between each stage.
